In the murky depths of the vehicle pool, the OTEC Freighter waits for
the opportunity to sail onto the world stage.
The ship can carry 3,000 twenty-foot containers (TEU). She is powered
by an Ocean-Thermal Energy Conversion plant, a clean power source based
on differences in water temperature at various depths. Other than that,
the OTEC Freighter looks perfectly ordinary -- a superstructure in the
rear, long rows of containers, and gantry cranes.
A full load of provisions is $12,000.

Powertrain: 62,000-kW ducted propeller; 62,500-kW OTEC power plant.

Design Notes
Body is 3,000,000 cf, with average hydrodynamics. Superstructure is
125,000 cf, on Body. OTEC Pipe is 250,000 sf, under Body. Open Mounts
1-4 are 1,000 cf each, on Body. Open Mount 5 is 13 cf, on
Superstructure. Structure is medium, cheap. Armor is cheap metal.
Waterproofed. Mechanical controls. 188,614 cf of empty space in the
Body, 103,326 cf in the Superstructure. Empty weight is 40,000,000 lbs.
The vehicle uses the design rules from Vehicles [second edition, third
printing, July 2010 errata], VXi (including the structural weight and
cost rule), and VXii (including the armor volume rule) with the text
format from Vehicles Lite.
