Retractable wheels. This is a reentry-capable spacecraft, after all. The need for a welcoming committee is a good point. At low altitude over an earthlike world, you can use fastropes or recovery winches. But a weapon which can only be used in benign environments sounds like a bad idea. Perhaps a window gun instead of a door gun, except that the window doesn't have to be unsealed to use it. In 3E Vehicles, a casemate or cyberslave mount instead of a door mount. The gunner would still sit next to the hatch and pull people in. One option: Cockpit with four workstations, rear cabin with four passenger seats, a toilet in the rear, and two forcelock hatches. The weapons are mounted somewhere along the hull in cyberslave mounts, and controlled from the cockpit. Another option: Cockpit with two workstations, rear cabin with six seats and a toilet, plus two forcelock hatches. A big weapon under the nose, controlled by the copilot, and two smaller weapons on the side, controlled by workstations in the rear cabin. * The passenger seats are cramped to leave room for cargo, and I envisioned them as folding seats facing inwards. The crew seats are roomy seats facing forward. But how would a cabin with both cramped folding seats and roomy seats look? * I can afford approx. 300 lbs. of beam weapons, with ten rE power cells between them, plus 1,600 lbs. of missiles and rockets. One 240-lb. beam under the nose for vehicle combat and two 30-lb. beams on the sides to suppress the LZ? > Also machines have iSsues telling friendly or foe unless ya have a > tag like with BLUFOR (supposedly a sensor says friendly if ya point > a weapon at a fellow with a blufor electronic tag. I thought those thingies were still GPS-based, and not accurate enough to track the aim of a rifle.
