Prison Regiment, or aliens show up off planet and demand you provide them
with troops or else.. Else could be bombardment from space or something
else?
Else could be there is aliens invading and the aliens in orbit need help,
but to proud to ask for it, or the aliens look human and they need something
to
counter them with, aka Earth.. So earth empties its prisons and donate the
prisoners to the aliens and now what? One way to get into deep space?
Alternate is:
Not the first time someone offered the choice.
Invasion
Bombardment
Pay a fee of food, minerals.
Concession of land and like.
Bodies for military or like service, hopefully not to be wasted or eaten?
Might be fun to see how much we can trust them or do we or will we care?
Prisoners to be spies or ambassedors or what?
If any do get back, after their time, if they play their cards right, they
might be extremely wealthy at the tech, information and people they will
meet/learn about and work with/network with.
