Over the weekend I've looked some more at a TL10 mortar suit.

The 200mm electromag mortar is mounted in a turret on the shoulder
next to a separate turret for the head. Sixteen rounds are carried
in the body. At this TL, and for so few rounds, I envision a feed
system which moves each individual rounds like a sliding block
puzzle -- RoF 1/5 means a lot of time for whirring and clicking
noises.

With the GURPS 3E rules, artillery is not very useful against area
targets at high tech levels. The damage from ICM bomblets is 6d(10)
and HE shells need a direct hit against sealed armor. SICM gets a
hard time against cloaked targets. I see the mortar mostly against
field fortifications or bunkers. That means APEX concrete-piercing
shells or HESH to shatter walls.

Moving targets are another possibility, but that is the job for
guided missiles.

What else? Blackout smoke could be useful, but do you spend one of
just 16 shells on that? Tangler as a non-lethal round? That could
really gum up a street.

Regards,
Onno
