This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the
GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial
redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on
a website or the like. The files at omeyer.gmxhome.de are down until
I fix the automatic PDF generation, which should be one of these
days - see sourceforge.net/projects/gurpsml

Heavy Transport Tiltrotor v1.0 (TL9)
  Copyright 2015 by Onno Meyer

The Heavy Transport Tiltrotor is intended for planets with a limited
transport infrastructure. It combines the vertical takeoff and landing
capability of a helicopter with the speed and range of a conventional
plane. Under earthlike conditions, it can carry 12 tons of cargo up to
1,600 miles, depending on the grade of the fuel. Alternatively, 70
passengers can sit or stand in the cargo bay.
The turbines burn 495 gallons of alcohol or 412.5 gallons of gasoline
or diesel per hour at 360 mph routine speed in plane mode. A full load
of fuel alcohol is $1,000.

Subassemblies: Body +5, six Retractable Wheels +1, two Wings +3, two
Multiple Main Rotors +2, two Pods +3.
Powertrain: Two 3,750-kW tiltrotor drivetrains; two 3,750-kW standard
  gas turbines; 280,000-kWs advanced batteries.
Fuel: 2,000 gallons alcohol (fire on 8).
Occ: 2 RCS, 20 folding CS. Cargo: 1,000 cf.

Design Notes
Body is 2,400 cf, with very good streamlining. Wheels are 120 cf,
retract into Body. Wings are 180 cf each, folding. Rotors are 48 cf
each, folding. Pods are 120 cf each. Structure is light, standard. Armor
is standard composite. Sealed. Tanks are light, self-sealing.
Computerized controls with duplicate maneuver controls. 253.1465 cf of
empty space in the Body, 27.75 cf in each Wing, 9.375 cf in each Pod.
Empty weight is 24,000 lbs.
The vehicle uses the design rules from Vehicles [second edition, third
printing, July 2010 errata], Vxi, and VXii (including the armor volume
rule) with the text format from Vehicles Lite.

Next Week: A Traveller grav flyer.
