Hi, If I (i) create a polygon layer with 1-2 polygons and select 1, (ii) then create a point layer (where some points overlap with a polygon) and select all the points, and (iii) open the spatial selection tool.
1. If I select 'Intersect with.. + New Selection' all the points that intersect with my selected polygon remain selected. :-) 2. "Add to Selection' appears to be a redundant button because this tool only works with geometries selected in both layers (which is very frustrating). How do you select currently unselected geometries that overlap with selected geometries in another layer or just another layer? =-O 3. If I select 'Intersect with.. + Subtract from Selection' all the points that intersect with my selected polygon remain selected everything else is unselected. =-O 4. If I select 'are disjoint from.. + New Selection' this selects everything else. I was using this tool extensively today to apply multiple conditions (polygon with certain vegetation types + polygons not with already modified attributes + polygons with certain trees present + polygons over certain geology). I tried over and over to apply a sequence of filters and spatial selections but found I could not get the subset I wanted. In the end I needed to create new fields and put a '1' in them if they matched a spatial selection or filter. Then use a simple filter to get all the polygons with 1+1+1+1. Clumsy but it worked. Apart from the mentioned error why does this tool only work on selected items - as mentioned you can't bring in unselected items. :-( -- Cheers Simon Simon Cropper Botanicus Australia Pty Ltd PO Box 160, Sunshine, Victoria 3020.
