This is probably because there was some data in the operating
system's cache that was still valid and did not have to be
reloaded from disk. There is nothing in gvSIG CE that would
make it load a project file faster than any previous/other
version.

These sorts of errors typically indicate a problem with
the raster data drivers. Those are not Java, but
native C/C++ compiled code and they have to precisely
match the version of the gvSIG API used to call them.
I don't know how the Linux distributions get produced
by CIT, but I suspect there may be a flaw in their
setup. For gvSIG CE, I have taken much care to produce
well-working binaries for the raster data drivers.
