Hello everyone. We don't like policing the lists because we would rather
answer messages as timely as possible so we can continue to provide the
best tech support and continue to further develop our products. So
here's a short, but necessary reminder about some list netiquette.
1. Carbon copying the support address. All messages from all of our
lists are monitored by GW Micro staff. Because of this, it is not
necessary to CC the [email protected] email address. Doing so simply
causes delays because the person answering support may not be the same
person answering one of the lists and so then someone must take extra
time in researching to see if the answer was already given. This adds to
the delay of answering an email. Also, support messages are answered
privately where most list messages are answered publicly. So if a
message goes to the list and also to support, it must be OK to respond
to it publicly. In short, it's redundant.
2. Replying to every single message. It's well understood that many
people frequently read one message and then reply to it without reading
ahead to see if the answer was already given. We all do it, even us at
GW Micro. However let this be a reminder to all that if you take the
extra few minutes to check ahead, you might save yourself extra typing
by responding to a message which has already been responded to. In
addition, if you are responding to a response to say "Thank you", or "It
worked", or "Thanks, I tried that", it's not necessary to respond to
each and every person who offered a suggestion. One message of that type
will do since everyone on list will see your message if they are
interested in the topic. Responding to each and every person's message
just to say the same thing is a waste of your time and bandwidth.
Many thanks.
