I will chime in here as well. I am using the XT Book Sense as well. I mostly read books from Book Share because of a hearing problem I also deal with because synthesized speech keeps a more constant level for me to hear. So, I mostly use books which rely on the TTS within the Book Sense, and though there are some pronunciation foibles, something we can expect with most synthesized speech, I find this by far more comfortable to listen to than other products out there. Admittedly, I have not used the radio as much as I thought I might, but it works comfortably. I have also started using the recording feature to record reminders to myself which I like. I have downloaded material from the NLS BARD site and have had good luck with that as well.
Overall, I have enjoyed my Book Sense. The pronunciation foibles bother me, though you can still read and understand the material. There is a sound level difference between the NLS material and the TTS announcements, and for my situation, I need to read NLS material with head phones. I have the Executive Products case for my Book Sense which has been fine for me, though I would like to try to get a place cut so that I could more easily gain access to the pinhole reset place, something which comes up occasionally. In fact, I kiund of wish Hims would find another way to reset the machine, like with a key combination or something as that little pinhole must be treated very carefully and worries me just a bit. I have had my unit since they were first on the market and read for several hours daily, on and off power and have been much more pleased with this than with the other product. \Dianne -----Original Message----- From: Louis [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, March 07, 2010 10:09 PM To: Traci Cc: gw-booksense Subject: Re: [GW-Booksense] new member looking for reviews On 3/7/10, Louis <[email protected]> wrote: > I love my xt as well. It goes every where I do and I can't imagine living with out it. I use the media player to listen to music and audio books, the daisy player to listen to books from RFBD and NLS and occasionally I would use the document reader and radio. I find the recording to be excelent but I haven't found a need to do a lot of recordings but it is nice to have. I've experienced problems with my unit and GW Micro has provided excelent customer support. Now the things I don't like. I don't like the pouch that comes with the BookSense. I wish it came with a case. You can by a vinyl case from GW or a leather case from Executive Products but I find that a cell phone case is adequate. Another thing I don't like is the BookSense does not currently support protected WMA files. I read a lot of books in this format so it would be useful if the BookSense supported it but I'm sure this problem will be resolved soon. As you can tell I can't really find anything bad to say about the BookSense. If you reply to this message it will be delivered to the original sender only.
