Hello Rita

with the BookSense the speech prompts let you know when the USB or power
cables are connected. Since nothing else can occur with the USB cable
connected, the voice output serves as a valuable warning.

When connecting or disconnecting the power cable again the BookSense
announces the operation. This can be distracting, however when weighed
against the value of knowing that both ends are connected might save
some time in the event that some trouble shooting is necessary.

When playing media there is an option not to announce the files.
Personally I like this switched off. Sometimes when playing long
playlists through a stereo system, I do like to here the file name; this
is a personal preference though.

When connecting to my Bluetooth device, here too the BookSense provides
me with some feedback. I find this to be valuable, because if I forget
to switch the Bluetooth off and try to connect, I like knowing that the
Bluetooth option has been switched off. This is because I find that if I
leave it on, it may not connect. Turning off the Bluetooth option before
shutting down ensures that I have a high degree of probability of
connecting to my Bluetooth device when I want to pare it up again.

I realize I haven't answered your question or addressed your concern.
This is only because I don't fully appreciate the challenge you face.
One feature that would be something I would like is to have a separate
volume control for the synthesized voices. I find that in many cases
they play louder than the media or DAISY recording to which I am
listening. This can be uncomfortable when wearing ear buds or a headset.
It also distorts the speaker when it is too loud which may cause damage
to the speakers.
