For what it's worth, and for those in the U.S., it also might be worth getting one of the NLS DTB players from your cooperating NLS regional/state library. After all, they are free, have way more battery life than any of the portable book players such as the Booksense, and sound like a good backup option to me. Did I say they were free? You can go with the standard or advanced models, the main difference between them being that the advanced player has bookmark capabilities and allows you to move through navigation levels like on the Booksense. The wait list for the player may be long, but again it's a good backup option.
