This scary Samantha thing is cracking me up!

For those of you that may own a victor and a iPod, does she sound different?

She doesn't sound scary at all on the iPod; granted, I haven't had her read a whole lot. Not like she would on the iPad or something.

I'm in the camp, where I don't want the booksense crowded with eloquence. Kate and Paul are just fine, and hopefully pronunciation will be in the future. Fingers crossed for some sort of user dictionary.

*smile,*

You're right. that's a good start. Now what they need to do is to add about five more speeds, or increase the speed for each level between one and five. It's always better to have the speed faster than what you think you would like. Chances are some one else (like me) will. If it's too fast, we can always slow it down. If it's too slow, even on the high speed, there's nothing we can do.

I really like the speed control for human read books. Some of the readers that read nls books read slow.

Well I never thought I'd be a speed listener, and when you think of it, the
super fast speech does sound kind of ugly, but it's the utility of being
able to rip on through a document or book fast that got me inching up the
speed. Now I run jaws fairly fast -- faster for stuff I'm familiar with,
and it's interesting how you stop hearing individual words -- it's like the information on the page kind of flows into your head. Now before I started using screen readers, I used to listen to blind friends and wonder what the
heck made it possible for them to make heads or tails of their rapid fire
synth. Necessity makes a lot of things possible. You normally don't think
of disabilities that way.

I never did like fast synthesized speech. I have DecTalk set to 25 and
that's fast enough for me. I have the BSP's speech set to 5. I slowed down
the BookSense's speech to 4 or 5.

If a human voice reads too slowly, I'll kick it up one notch faster.
