You'll find that Kate mispronounces some words that Paul does
not. One that comes to mind is "volume". Paul pronounces it like
that. Kate says "voloom". Paul does still mispronounce other words,
and it may have to do with the fact that HIMS apparently did not use
the entire Voiceware Neospeech for the booksense--perhaps for space
considerations. Some one once suggested some kind of dictionary that
the user could edit for proper pronunciation, but I don't know if
that will ever happen.

Hi. I am a new user of the Booksense, just having purchased it last
week. I'm really impressed with the Booksense. It's a great
product despite some quirks which I would love to see dealt with in
future versions. I was a Victor READER Stream user from it's
release until last week. I'm afraid I changed products as the
Booksense has much better speech (I find Kate great to listen to),
and I love the ability to be able to read word documents without
converting them.
I must admit, that although Kate is great to listen to, someone at
whichever company produces the Kate and Paul voices must have quite
a strange sense of humour. The first time I heard Kate and Paul
were when they shipped with the Kurzweil reading system. I was
reading a Harry Potter book at the time and was baffled by hearing
the phrase "he's not busy Weassley" on regular occasions.
It transpired that whenever Kate came to the word Charlie, she
pronounced it as "he's not busy"!
Now, whenever Kate comes across the word "interest" he says "inpest"
and so on with other similar words. Clothing becomes "clotheb" and
there are others of a similar nature. It's not just a quirk in her
speech algorythms, I think, as she pronounces most words
excellently. I'm sure such weird word pronunciations have somehow
been deliberately introduced! I'm not blaming anyone of course, but
I would love to see these off-the-wall pronunciations corrected in
future. I accept that she is always going to mispronounce some
words, but words such as interest really aren't difficult.
I truly wish the booksense was supplied with a case with a belt
clip. I don't like having it hanging around my neck and I don't
tend to wear clothing with pockets. I understand GWMICRO make such
a case but it's not available in the UK which is a real shame.
Having said all the above, it's a great product and so I just wanted
to pass on my thanks to all at Gwmicro and Himms for all their work
on making this possibly the top of my list of must have gadgets at present.
With best regards.
Donna Slater.
