I've had a Booksense for over a year now. I've heard a demo of the Bookport Plus. I used to have a Bookport, but it finally stopped working, and no one repairs them now. I bouthg a Booksense. The synthetic voice on the Bookport Plus is the same one as used by the Plextalk Pocket. The voices on the Booksense are ones used by the Voiceware speech program from Neospeech called "Kate" and "Paul". They sound much more human. There are some pronunciation problems, but not that many, as far as I am concerned. The voice quality makes up for these shortcomings. You can get the voice speed using "Kate" or "Paul to the point that it would be very difficult for most people to understand it. As far as NLS books go, the Bookport Plus plays them faster, but not a lot faster. I think the speed on these books should be so fast that the user would need to slow it down, instead of wishing for something faster. As far as recording goes, I've only used the internal microphone on the Booksense. You can very the sensitivity rate from one to four. One for close-up recording, and four for recording something in, for example, a large room. You can also very the bit rate of the recordings from 16,000 to 44,000. Of course, the high-bit recordings are going to take up more space, but they'll be of increasingly better quality.

There is a bit of subjectivity involved here, but overall, I think the Booksense is a superior product.

Well, I'm again contemplating the purchase of a portable player. I'm
calling on the wisdom of the list to pass on how the Book Sense rates
compared to the Book Port and Stream. I'm interested in overall
impressions, any flaw or benefit I don't mention here, and in these
questions:

Can you speed up the tts or human voices fast enough?

Are there any limitations with line-in recording?

If you have one, how does recording in general compare to that on the Book
Port Plus?

How does playback of NLS books compare to that on either of the other
players?

Thanks for any feedback.
