Steve, what I suspect may be happening is that the full recording may contain cassette announcements at the end of the book and this would be around 20 seconds. However due to the mark up to suppress these messages, the time would naturally be off. If you add all the sections for end of sides for each cassette, the time would add up to several minutes which are suppressed and thus the time reported would be off.
