David I doubt that on its first run, GWMicro hopes to get it better (as you put it) than Freedom Scientific's use of scripting in JFW. That likely would be impossible as scripting has been a part of JFW from day one and Freedom Scientific has far more experience in this arena. It will take GWMicro years to get in that same league especially if we look at the number of useful scripts that must be developed. A lot of the things you see posted on gwmicro's script page are cutesy things rather than enhancing marginally usable software. Nice to demonstrate that you can retrieve weather (what's the big deal, I do that 100 times a day now), and so on; but people ultimately want program functionality.
If I had to guess, the reason the delay has been months and months is that something just hasn't worked, perhaps security holes, fill in the blanks. Unless you directly know a beta tester and they trust you enough to talk with you off the record (and I don't), we will never know what caused the delay. We'll just know the public explanations which may or may not be the truth. GWMicro had to expect the release months ago else they would have not done all that drum beating back in Jan and Feb. The only folks that can initially judge the quality of the scripting capability will be those that both use JfW and WE. The rest of us may not know how good or versatile it is until we hear those comparisons from skilled users and script developers. It will be the developers that ultimately will be the judge as to the robustness and capabilities of WE scripting. If you reply to this message it will be delivered to the original sender only.
