At the risk of sounding overly dramatic, Yahoo! is becoming virually unusable with Wineyes 6.X. I've always been able to sign in and be recognized with a 2-week cookie, both at My Yahoo, and the Daily News.
Now I, and presumably any WE use, can do almost nothing. The words, "Sign Up," "Sign In," are there, but there's no link, no onclick, no Control. It's still possible to link to news stories or video clips, but any personalization is gone! Send a greeting card? Forget it, unless Hallmark still works. I say this simply to illustrate the point that we are at yet another crossroads, with the second most popular site on the Net serving as an example. This decreasing functionality is like the mythical sword of Damocles, always hanging over the blind user's head. If it's just Yahoo!, one can go elsewhere, though I had a nice little RSS selection built up on the my.Yahoo! page. If, however, it's a matter of one's job or a source of info that allows one to perform the task at hand, things become more serious. To those who may read this and say, "Get a blog!", I can only reply that this is just one more reason why we're all looking forward to WE 7.0 and will be listening to Main Menu with baited breath -- "This is the biggest fairy tale I've ever seen." --Bill Clinton in NH.
