Have neither McAfee, nor Norton on my coputer, namely because of their
system greediness. As I stated in my original message, this VERY RARELY
happened with any of the SAPI voices. Never had patience to work with
dectalk in my ear, for more than a few minutes, so I can't tell, whether it
will do it or not.
I used another screen reader before, that made use of the eci Eloquence,
like the WE7 does. The same thing happened with that one. Seems that this
Eloquence is more responsive, but also, far more easy to bring out of
working order; more exposed to a bit of a slowdown of the computer.
Well, now I know, it is not just me, experiencing this behavior. That saves
my night sleep :)
Still, I think it is something the staff might want to look into. If
Eloquence is behaving this way on my computer - which ain't of the really
slow laptops, I wonder what it will do on a PC with say 1.4GHZ CPU. Well,
gives us all a good excuse for runing out and buying new computers; the
manufacturers will love us! :)
Thanks all of you!

sounds like your c p u has too much to do. grin
have you tried another synth like decaccess32 or microsoft speech?
if it works right then you know it is eloquence.
you may need a updated sound card driver.
also what is hap
pening is normal. the c p u will stop speech while it accesses your hard
drive. it will process sound inbetween read and wright times
thats why it studders. its waiting for the drive to finish a read cycle.
it happens to me too acationly with my 2.4 ghz computer too, but not as
bad as yours does.
for what ever the reason something is boging down the c p u. probibly
mcafee or norton. both slow down your computer as much as 20 percent.

Subject: new eloquence, when the PC gets busy
Don't know, if it is only with me, Eloquence plays tricks. At the moment,
I am working on a laptop, from 2004. It is a 2.8ghz, with xp pro, and
768RAM. This problem didn't happen with the SAPI voices - Eloquence or any
of my other SAPI voices.
What happens is, that when I operate too much on the PC simutaneously -
i.e I have opened Outlook Express, then choosen to read a message, and
find a link in that message, which I click on - the Eloquence sounds like
he has swallowed a machine gun; stuttering like crazy, whilest the
Internet Explorer opens, and loads the linked page. If now, the Internet -
out of some reason - doesn't work at optimum speed, Eloquence will go on
for quite a while, stuttering the text it was reading. Sometimes it even
decides to go for 'coffee', leaving me on my own, infront of the PC;
helpless... :) the stuttering also shows up, when I am reading some text
in let's say Notepad, and Outlook Express sneaks onto the Internet - in
the background - so as to check for new messages. That's just two
examples, where eloquence seems to have certain vocal problems. Don't
know, if my Eloquence is sick; or if any of you have noticed similar
complications.
Thanks for all good suggestions!
