Thanks for the clarification about the m dash. Yes, it is much clearer when
only dash is spoken! How do I read the code for a character - so I can
determine which character is actually there?
Yes, my P.S. was garbled; I misinterpreted what was happening. My choice of
SAPI synthesizer was repeating the prior character instead of reading the
current character typed. As John covici pointed out, dates spoken with
question mark instead of slash as the delimiter is do to the choice of Sapi
synthesizer. Switching to DecTalk Window-Eyes resolves the problems.

Your message didn't have a lot of detail <smile> so I'm going to make
assumptions.
I'm going to assume when you say ctrl-alt-minus no longer inserts an m dash
that you are saying it says it in inserting a simple dash instead. You didn't
mention if it did anything but for me it spoke "dash" but did in fact insert a
m dash. You can verify this by looking at the unicode character for the dash
and you'll see that it is in fact 2014 hex. We have a file called charname.ini
that tells Window-Eyes what to speak for most unicode characters. For 2014 we
have it saying "dash" mainly because we were told that saying "m dash" was to
verbose in some applications. So you could override this in Word if you choose
by using the character dictionary or even change the default setting in the
charname.ini file but I really don't want to see people changing this file and
then calling our support 6 weeks later saying something isn't speaking
correctly <smile>.
As for your P.S. statement, I didn't follow that at all. Can you please
explain what you were saying in more detail?
