GoldWave from www.goldwave.ca is simple and easy to use. In fact, it does not even require scripts for it. One thing however is that it's not free. It's not often that you get something of good quality if it's free. That is not to say that all free software is bad, just saying that in this case, the one I recommend is not free. There may be other audio editors out there which are free and which others will feel are better and if so, then others will respond.
