Thanks a lot it worked. The steps I did were that I printed it to Office
Imaging to TIF format and then opened in Microsoft Document Imaging which can
do an OCR and send data to Word.

CC: Robert thanks, instead of Fine Reader as suggested by you I used Office
2003's Microsoft Document Imaging.

Jitendra

Subject: Re: PDF reading garbage

Here is what is probably happening.
This pdfr document has been scanned as an image plus the copyright header and
footer.
So any sightling viewing would have no problem reading the text as say for a
fax. However we have to find another way of overcoming this problem
What I have found is that if the document is printed out to the Microsoft Image
Writer which comes with Office2003 you will then be able to export the created
.mdi file to Microsoft word.
T%ry this. It works. Took me most of last year at my university to convince
staff that there was in fact a problem and the rest of the year to find a way
of overcoming it.
The situation is that the documents are scanned in this way purely in the
interests of speed.

Cheers
Andrea

Subject: PDF reading garbage

Hi Listers, in a PDF file I have, when I read it on a page it reads the header
and the last line which is the copyright message and between them the content
is read as garbage. Anyone encountered this problem. To counter this I upgraded
to Adobe Reader 9 from version 8. As far as I remember in 8 the entire page was
read as garbage characters.

Ccan you please suggest any tips or tricks. I surely think that the content is
not an image.

Regards
Jitendra
