I'd get that computer of yours checked out. My desktop pc has two cooling
fans, and the secondary fan only revs up when I power the computer on from a
dead stop. Could be your power supply connection to the fan is corroded or
the fan itself is spinning its last. Or worse.

I have been using Eloquence since 2001, and the only quirk I have observed
over the years, that even comes close to what you described, is that on long
passages with no punctuation, the pitch, not the speed, gradually drops to a
low growl, then, as Shannon described it, Eloquence "takes a breath" and
picks up again at the set file's pitch setting.

Subject: Explaining Eloquence Issues

I find Eloquence very responsive overall with beta 2. Could be a bit faster
when up and down-arrowing, but very good overall. No lockups or crashes. The
only issue I am having is that Eloquence still occasionally drags down while
reading, elongating words in a very choppy manner. I often hear my computer
fan accelerate briefly when this happens. If I wait long enough, Eloquence
will resume reading normally. If I tap the control key, I can almost always
resume reading immediately with no apparent sluggishness. I cannot give
steps to reproduce this behavior reliably. Thanks.
