I am having a similar problem using beta 2 in WXPH. Closing an application and returning to the Desktop is when it is likely to happen.

When the Desktop has focus, the highlighted icon will be spoken but if then say, an "I" is pressed to go to the Internet Explorer icon, the "I" will be spoken but not the icon. Pressing the spacebar will cause the "Internet Explorer" icon to be then spoken.

Never had this problem in 6.1 but can't comment on beta 1 because I have just joined the beta process with beta 2.

Neville.

   hi to staff and listers,
i figured out why i have been haveing focus problems with the windows explorer and windows mail with vista basic home.
when track mouse with focus is on is when this happens.
it will do this with all set files.
when i tab to the desktop w e will only say desktop. not the icon that windows is on until i arrow away and back again to the icon then w e will speak each icon as i move to them. if i click on computer it will not say the drive letter that windows is on until i arrow away and back again. with windows mail when i tab from the in,out box etc to the mail box list w e will not say where you are in the list until you arrow away and back to the mailbox you were on. but with windows mail you can not do this because if there are any messages in the mailbox you arrow to it will automatically go to the message list.
if i have track mouse with focus turned off this does not happen.
this is with a fresh 6.1 and 7 b2 install.
thats how i found out. accidently because the track mouse with focus is off in the default set files installed.
thanks.
