Michael and Neville, you are saints! Hiding here under my rock, I was not previously aware of the Windows taskkill facility. I have incorporated your collective wisdom into an AutoHotkey utilities script that performs a number of labour-saving tasks for me and the result is great. Having tested the macro on a perfectly healthy Window-Eyes, I then made it unhealthy by going into the Volume Control. When it became mute, I ran the macro from a hot key and restarted Window-Eyes.
My macro calls an audio file that seeks confirmation before wielding the axe. I could have it automatically restart Wineyes, but that may push the bounds of optimism a little too far.
