Hi Ray
one little trick I've come up with is to click
the help link located near the bottom of the i
player window. Then I refresh the MSAA buffer
manually. In my experience that results in some of the buttons being labeled.
I usually just click on the listen again link and
sit back and enjoy the program. The pause is one
of the buttons that is labeled after the above
procedure is followed. That's the only button I care about.

Hope this will intrerst GW staff as well as other listers.
The UK has a regular programme for blind and VI
people, In touch. Last night they did a second
programme on the Flash Based BBC IPlayer which
is causing quite a few people, Window-Eyes users or not, some grief.
A regular Window-Eyes user couldn't identify the
buttons on the Iplayer which are in fact
labeled. Léonie Watson a savvy user of access
software, not a regular W-E user though - could find the buttons with W-E 6.
It is possible the guy who couldn't use IPlayer
wasn't using the latest version of W-E.
My questions:
1. would say, 5.5 identify these labeled buttons?
2. Is there a reason why under some conditions,
W-E 6 wouldn't identify the buttons?
3 Would the version of Adobe Flash installed have a bearing on this?
I can add that beta 7 has no problems with the
BBC IPlayer as far as it goes, but then the BBC
has been castigated for not getting the access
in IPlayer perfect from the start, particularly
the drag bar for navigating through streams, and the volume control slider.
Those here in the UK, and posibly those outside it, can go to:
and find a listen again link which may work for
everyone as the programme doesn't have
music-related copyright issues, but sorry if
others cannot access it to experience the IPlayer in all it's glory!
I do think something could, or should be done,
to improve access with the Flash player
generally as it is now taking over as the
streaming player of choice for many many websites. Maybe this
might mean enhancing Flash support via MSAA, I
don't know. Interestingly though I would not be
able to use the mouse pointer in W-E to get at
the scrub bar slider controls as the off screen
model doesn't know the slider is there.
So, comments please. Sorry for a long post, but
I know this isn't a simple issue.
Thanks,
Ray.
