I agree wholeheartedly.

I have to echo the thoughts expressed here, to the degree that I too believe
that eloquence tends to be quite idiosyncratic. I would never in a million
years refer to it as anything approaching "rock solid." At best, it's
glitchy. But then we have DecTalk. More reliable, maybe. But am I going to
listen to those voices all day? Not on your life.
If I were running the GW ship, I would at least consider offering a synth
that is still evolving and improving just as Window-eyes is. To be fair,
perhaps they have considered other options and have rejected them for one
reason or another. Still, it is my hope that one day Window-Eyes will be
packaged with a synth that shows off the product.
Meanwhile, no , Eloquence is not the answer, but I'll go right on using it
because DecTalk will not be permitted through my speakers.

Subject: windows problem ... on laptop. with Eloquence.
the computer is: a
Dell - Inspiron Laptop with IntelĀ® Core"2 Duo
Processor T5750 - Jet Black Model: I1525-122B
and here's what happens. Run Dec_access32, load
Window-eyes or let the computer load, all ok.
Unload Window-Eyes, goes away ok, load Window-eyes, all comes back talking.
Now change to ... Eloquence.
Computer loads WE, all ok, unload WE, all goes
away, load WE, ... wait ... wait some more ...
some more, ... wait, and wait, and ... nothing,
though WE is loaded, nothing speaks.
Eloquence, and Vista, seems to me they don't get
along since that synthesizer was initially
designed with sapi 4 in mind, and here it is ten
years or so later and yet, why is Dec_access32 so
responsive and accurate with Vista and not good ole Eloquence?
With all the issues, I know hind sight is 2020,
but seems to me a better synthesizer could have
been picked than this troublesome one.
Window-Eyes and Eloquence have always had issues,
that unwanted pausing so often complained about
and nothing done by the maker of Eloquence, since
they're so much smarter than all of day to day
listeners who have to deal with it's
idiosyncrasy, so our opinion doesn't count at
all, so they have a dead synthesizer on their
hands and so do we, since now, Window-Eyes, supports it as native.
Should have picked a better one guys, spend a
couple bux and invest time and effort instead of
that dead one which is not being developed at
all, and has issues with words crashing it,
unpredictable crashes without any cause at all
but traced to it, and on it goes.
Popular, yes, because it was promulgated so much
when it was not complicated to use our computers,
as complicated as it is today, so the smaller
foot print or at least the dependability of
Dec_access32 demonstrates itself time and time
again. Even sapi 5 synthesizers like ScanSoft
Karen or more dependable for not crashing on my
computer, let alone Paul and Kate who are even
more reliable, so why interact with such a dead horse as this.
