Hi,

Having a screen saver is good. But, every time you standby or shutdown a
computer, there is a lot of wear and tear on the components. The system
goes from room temp to warm and back. Metals and other materials expand and
contract which causes fatigue. Another item is the hard drive, it has to
spin up and down every time you apply and remove power. Finally, a standard
pc uses very little electricity.

So, in my opinion,(over 20 years of hardware exp), is that power-cycling a
computer that has a constant supply of power probably is more harmfull than
just letting it sit and spin. I would, however, reboot a windows based
system atleast once a week or less. Kinda helps to clear the baffles, apply
them pesky updates and gives a fresh system for microshaft.

Just my 2-cents..

Warm Regards.. Joe Lanier

I could run it all day I'm just concerned about wearing out my computer by
leaving running at full power instead of in standby while I'm not using it
and be able to have it wake up at specfic time so I can record streams.
thanks
