Hello Dan. The manual states that when an address is found, the distance
between your current position and the located address will be displayed.
So if you are getting the previous button it means that the address was
not found and you will have to press the previous button to go back a
step and try again. On reflection, when it does this, we should state
that the address was not found and you should not be able to tab to the
drive there and walk there buttons. So for now just know that if
previous is mentioned automatically, the drive there and walk there
buttons are disabled.
As to why you are getting this, it could be because the address you are
looking for is not in the city you gave it. Unfortunately due to the way
the map data is compiled, we don't have control of this. Believe me,
it's an annoyance with any GPS user of Sendero products and of other gps
products with map data which is not fully accurate. A friend's house is
located in Fort Wayne, but as far as SenseNav's map data is concerned,
he's in Aboit. Go figure.
If you call us on the phone, I can walk you through how to tweak the
system to make for better address searches. Anyway, when you do find an
address, the distance will be reported. From this point, tab to the set
as virtual position button and press enter. Your virtual position will
be set to this address. That will be your new current position. Now if
you want to create a route to another place, repeat the steps by
searching for another address or for a POI. Once you find the second
point, this time tab to the drive there or walk there buttons and press
enter.
To answer your last question, you can certainly explore the map in
virtual mode, create routes, follow routes, and look around all over the
place without having a live gps connection.
Hope this helps.

Well, I am feeling a bit crazy. Here is what I have tried and am
missing something.
1. Press space with s.
2. Typed in illinois in trhe state editbox.
3. Tabbed once into a list of states and chose Illinois. I probably
only needed to do one of these actiions.
4. Tab to next and pressed enter.
5. In the city, I typed in my city.
6. /tabbed once and was told the device was searching for cities.
Unfortunatlly, it found more than one city with mine. /Actually there
is only two and why It has several I am not sure. But I took the first one.
7. Tabbed twice to nextt and pressed enter.
8. I am asked for an address and so I entered in the streed number.
9. Tabbed once to street name and entered in the name.
10. tabbed once and I am told "searching for address."
11. Shortly, I am given the choice of these buttons to tab through:
previous, drive there, walk there, set as destination, add as poi, set
virtual position and cancel. This is where I stop. I can not find where
to say this is my starting point. Sorry if I seem crazy to the advanced
users. I do use the trekker as well and want to learn this device.
Does one have to have the gps on to create a root? While this may sound
silly, I don't need it on with a few other devices and wondered if I am
just doing siomething wrong. I do however, have the gps on for the
steps I gave above.
I actually like how small this device is and can be put into a pocket or
controled from inside a large coat pocket in bad weather.
Thanks for any help and sorry for the long email.
