Try OMNIPAGE from nuance (former ScanSoft). It is one of the most widely
known OcR's and is quite accessible. I have confirmed that at least as late
as version 16, works well with WE. It can export the read document into a
long range of formats, icluding text, and MSWord. It further has the
capability to read aloud your scanned text, immediately, without opening any
text editor. Specially useful when scanning the five bills you received in
the mail today... :)
Through EBay, you can get OmniPage for under $30 + shipping; many times even
cheaper. It comes on one single CD, so shipping won't be much, and it is
self installing. Simply put the CD into your drive, and follow the onscreen
directions. You will be up and running in a few minutes.
I have used OmniPage the last some six years.Works well with both speech and
Braille display.
