Hi again Jerry,
Great news!
Even though I had disabled Mcafee 8 from doign any scanning, I still
couldn't run WE 7.
Now, I went ahead and uninstalled it based on your experience, and all
is ok!!! :)
So, we've pretty definitely identified the problem which was driving us
all crazy!
hth,
Chip

Subject: RE: problems with mcafee and we7.00
Hi Jerry,
I too have WE 7 at home and all is good, but also at work, with
Mcafee 8, it won't run at all if scripts are enabled.
It's been very frustrating, but while leaving Mcafee present,
I've disabled *all* of it's options, and I still can't get it to work.
This had lead me to conclude it wasn't Mcafee. I guess it's possible
that something Mcafee is doing during installation is actually the
source of the conflict, and not it's scanning, but uninstalling here,
just like you, doesn't seem to be an option, only temporarily disabling
it for testing.
I am getting an error as soon as I start it (within a few
seconds) of an invalid memory access; is that the problem you had?
While investigating Mcafee to see if it was the problem, I found
it has a script scanning feature as part of the on access scan settings.
You could try disabling just this to see if that's your particular
problem? To do so, you go into the console, select on access scanning,
choose it's properties, and in this tabbed dialog, under the general
tab, is a choice for enabling script scanning.
There's also a registry key which can be added, if that should
turn out to be the issue, which will allow you to re-enable script
scanning for all software except window eyes; I have sent this info to
GW in case it's helpful to anyone.
thanks for any insights.

Subject: problems with mcafee and we7.00
Hi Listers,
I have installed my own personal copy of 7.0 on my xp
computer at home running avg very successfully. it works great
including the scripts I have downloaded. Keep in mind, all, the script
thing seems to me to be a continuous improvement deal, with none of them
being necessarily a finished product.
Now to my problem, I tried to install we7 on me work
computer which has Mcafee8 on it. the only way it would work is that we
had to remove mcaffee and now it works great. Does anyone know what
switches to turn off so that this doesn't reoccur. Since I don't make
the decisions about software at work, I can't try another antivirus
program. any ideas? .
