Hi,

Is there anyone on the list who has experience of working with the
Realtek Audio Manager?

I have recently had to replace a computer and the new one, a Medion
Akoya with WINDOWS Vista Home Premium installed on it, is equipped with
a Realtek High Definition Audio sound system. It looks
all-singing-and-dancing but is giving me a real headache.

I am using a fully up-to-date version of WE 6.1 and as far as I can tell
there are no problems there. However, When it comes to using SKYPE I
cannot get the 'Mic' settings to work at all. I should say at this
stage that play-back is perfect, both through speakers and headphones
but neither an independant 'mic', plugged into either the rear panel
'line-in' jack-socket, or the 'mic' jack of my noise-cancelling
headphones plugged into the front panel's 'mic' jack-socket will work.

I've been through the Control Panel 'Sound' settings extensively; also
tried adjusting settings via the Systray's 'Volume control' but without
success. I've worked through the help and trouble-shooting info both in
Windows and on the SKYPE website and still no joy.

I keep coming back to the conclusion that the problem lies somewhere
within the default settings for the Realtek sound system.

Here I hit three problems.......

Firstly, I can find nowhere on my machine any help or configuration info
for this device.
Secondly, it appears to use 'Static boxes' to display some information.
Not only do these seem incapable of interaction but the info that WE is
reading off seems both contradictory and confusing. A couple of 'for
instances' would be:
     "Headphones.... HDMI out..... Static Box"
"Rear speaker out..... Line-in..... Static Box"
Thirdly, When working through those controls available for making
changes to settings WE will neither define their specific purpose nor, in some instances, speak their current state.

With regard to 'Static boxes', is what I am hearing simply a rendering of information that is laid out to convey an image as it where of how the Back and
Front panel sockets are arranged?

Combined with the Realtek problems WE is not speaking the state of controls within the 'Volume Control' dialogue Box. Typically, these are the 'mute'
controls but additionally, some buttons, check-boxes and edit fields are
apparently missing; e.g. those relating to 'Wave' and 'mic' inputs/outputs.

Prior to purchasing this machine I've always used Creative Labs SB multi-channel soundcards and have never before hit a brick wall quite as solid as this one appears to be... If anyone can help I'd be very grateful...

Cheers,

Clive Stevenson
