In addition to checking your verbosity, do you have TweakUI installed by
chance?

I am posting this one again as I didn't get any replies to the original
post. When I press control back slash for the Window-eies control
panel, I don't hear any announcement but the actual menu works when I
press the alt key. Also, when I press windows key D or windows key M, I
am not hearing the word desktop.
