And just to complicate the issue further:

As already pointed out, Java and JavaScript are entirely different
beasts. JS, used well, can be an excellent tool for providing screen
reader users with improved access to websites.

But now to an important issue with Java. It can be run on a server and,
subject to effective coding, need not pose an access barrier. I am in
the process of testing a very complicated application that relies on
server side Java. Subject to some HTML coding issues, the site should
be completely usable with Window-Eyes.

What Window-Eyes doesn't like is Java applets that run on the client
computer. I have used a couple of applications relying on Java applets
successfully with another screen reader with Java Text Bridge installed.

Regarding suspending of Flash, all that does is to stop Flash from
reloading the page. Importantly, it does not disable the Flash.

Sorry about that. I probably ment java then. There are more and more
websites that use java. Maybe in the verbosity settings you all could
do something like suspend java which is something I suggested in this
earlier email. Just a thought.

Java and Java-script are apples and oranges. the only thing they have in
common is the word Java. Window-Eyes works with java-script. In fact,
you can write Window-Eyes scripts in Java-script if you want.
Window-Eyes does not support Java however.

Good luck.
