The idea is to avoid automated scripts from viewing or recording the
security numbers or letters so that automated systems cannot create
accounts to spam from. Personally I agree with this practice. However
it's the implementation of it which could change. Something like a
question such as,
What color is the red apple.
Then an edit box where you type apple. An automated script would need to
be smartly written to enter into the edit box to get passed that, but
like all things secure, everything has holes in it and someone would
eventually write a script which enters a pattern of words based on the
location of the question.
So there you have it.

yeah, but the picture is not very clear either. So, it's really the same
thing whether it's visual or auditory.

GMail is very accessible However you do have to get past the capcha. I
believe GMail has a listen audio link for it though.
