Hi Michael, How would allowing you to download your serialized copy (given your specific user id and password) require copy-protection?
You could easily track the number of downloads if you felt you needed to detect someone mass-publishing the user id and password, but then if you're worried about that, why wouldn't someone just mass-publish the CD itself as an ISO file if they were going to do that? Allowing a serialized full download would also give you the opportunity to experiment with use of torrents for the 99% of the product which wasn't serialized, so, helping to eliminate the server overload that you would otherwise expect. Maybe the user could get the entire CD via a torrent, and just download a .reg file with their user serial number and other identifying info (a negligable download)? It's work I know, but it would also allow for instant purchase of product: input a credit card number, and soon you'd be downloading a working copy. Just an idea.
