Greetings: For ripping a CD I have no problem using Windows Media Player. I find that setting the bit rate to 192 provides me with a good quality MP3 file. And it does a good job in creating audio CDs as well. The limitation with XP is that the built-in software, licensed from Roxio, to burn a CD does not support writing to a DVD. I don't have any experience with Vista yet. When using XP then a program like Nero or Sonic works well with WE. Vic
