I absolutely *love* outlook, and can't live without it; what's wrong with outlook?
Also, check out Jamal's DB dialog script; I'm pretty sure it stores contacts for you, and think it's a dialer. Many other programs however can be had which interface into the outlook contacts list, so I wouldn't write off outlook.
