Also, you could insert a CDRW, burn the files to CD and rip them off. Then
you can erase the CD so that you can use it again.

The only way I found to convert Itunes protected format is to use an audio
editor like Goldwave. You can download a trial version, which gives you
many free commands. The only problem is that you have to record in real
time. It's relatively easy to use and it works with Window-Eyes. Go to
www.goldwave.com
I purchased Sound Taxi, but it cannot convert the Itunes MP4 format.
