Hello John:

With respect to buying a mass produced computer Vs. a custom built one,
you will receive various opinions. What it will boil down to in the end
is what you are willing to pay and whom you trust.

As for on-board or not, this doesn't have much of an impact on WE. What
does matter is the more on-board devices you have the more RAM is shared
with these components. Using video and sound cards will free up some of
the computer's RAM for other tasks.

A couple of things to keep in mind is that it is important to ensure the
drivers for your hardware are up-to-date. And when selecting a sound or
video card try to avoid using some of the utilities that come with them.
>From time to time they have a sound management utility that may not be
accessible. I try to avoid using those utilities and prefer to manage
the sound and video through Windows.

Subject: Questions for a new computer

I'm in the process of having a new computer put together for me. I have
a couple of questions.
1. In terms of windoweyes and othee accessibiliity products, is it
better to have a separate sound card or use "onboard" sound -- i.e.,
sound that's part of the mother board?
2. Same for video: is a separate video card better for windoweyes or is
"shared video" okay?

I plan to use XP pro, not Vista.
Thanks.
