IE8 does have a compatibility mode which may fix some of the problems
mentioned about rendering pages. It is under the tools menu.

There has been some discussion about web pages etc not working right or
instability of i e 8.  Here's what I suspect is happening, the world as a
whole isn't ready yet.
I was doing surveys and today this is the message I got from a web page "We
have detected that you are using a INTERNET EXPLORER 8.
We currently do not support IE 8, in order to continue with this survey
please use the following browser(s)"
So it might be advisable to use fire fox for anything really important.
