Good day Pat: Often when trying to shut down your computer and it doesn't work, I find that the culprit is usually a process that does not stop. If you are using Outlook 2003 this can be the problem. Of course there are other processes that may be causing this if you are not using Outlook.
Press control+shift+escape to call up your task manager. Press control+tab until you get to the processes property sheet. Press the letter O and see if outlook.exe is there. If it is press the tab key until you get to the stop process button. Press the spacebar or enter key. Then press the spacebar or enter key on the yes button. To close the task manager, press alt+F4.
