In addition, the Kill Wineyes script from http://www.gwmicro.com/scripts/kill_wineyes provides a hotkey that will terminate lingering Window-Eyes processes and let you relaunch the program. The shortcut is assigned to Control-Alt-F4.

Steve

Yes, Rick and I were just talking about this problem where window eyes
crashes randomly, on the scripting list.

It's just as you describe it, no more speech from window eyes, but you
cannot restart it.

If you have other screen readers, you can start them up to deal with the
situation.

Rick said he had windows error messages often; I don't usually have any
clue as to why window eyes has stopped functioning.

If you use jaws to go into the task manager and kill certain window eyes
processes you can then restart it, but otherwise you do have to restart
windows.

You may be able to use narrator to do all this, but I find it's very
frustrating to use, and doesn't often read many things, so it's better
to get the demo copy of jaws to deal with this; then, memorize the
keystrokes needed to start jaws.

Subject: An interesting issue with windows

Hey guys,

Wondering if any of you have ever had this. This happens
about every 3 or 4
days, and it's starting to get pretty darn annoying.
It bothers me cause the computer is ultimately shut down impropperly.
I'll press enter on a message in outlook and it freezes my
entire system.
At this point, I have no speech.
I'll do windows key M, nothing. I'll try and restart
windoweyes and it does
the high to low sound like there is an error, but of course I
can't see the
error. Anyone else had this issue?
It just seems like randomly outlook it throwing things in to
orbit. The
only way to cure the problem is to press the power button and
do a hard
shutdown.
This of course means that the system was shut down impropperly.
Anyone else had this happen, or is this just one of those
funky situations
with windows.

Thanks,
Jed
