Can't agree with what, Jim? What advice are yu talking about? The
lady cited a specific problem and I offered her step-by-step
instructions in order to address that problem. I didn't advise her to
stop updating her copy of Winamp.
And pray, would you care telling us what security holes this current
version of Winamp deals with that not upgrading would be tantamount
to leaving yourself exposed to all the undesirable elements on the net?
Advice indeed!

I can't agree with this advice. Doing this means that you will not be
informed of updates.
In my view What you really need to do is when you see this window is go to
the winamp web page and download the latest version of the program. Install
it. then this window will go away and you will have the latest version of
the program. It is really important to keep programs like winamp up to date
because wholes and bugs are found in these types of programs all the time
that once known could make your system open to attack.

1. load winamp
2. press alt o
to display the winam preferences dialogue
By default, your cursor should be focused in a tree view menu which
you can navigate with the up and down arrow keys.
3. press the home key
to go to the top of the tree view menu.
4. press down arrow once
to get to general preferences.
5. with your tab key, step through your general preferences, one of
which is labeled
check for new versions of winamp at startup.
You should be able to get there by pressing the tab key 7 times from
the tree menucontrol.
6. press the space bar over the checkbox to uncheck the option.
7. press enter to exit the winam preferences dialogue.
let us know how you get on.
