Did he install from the CD, or from a download. When I attempted to install from the CD, I got a similar message, updated the driver, and got the same message when i attempted the install again. I then installed the upgrade downloaded from the net, and, Voila! it installed successfully. of course, in my case, it was an upgrade. if he is installing for the first time, he will be stuck using the CD.

When he re-boots the same message appears. He updated the drivers with the same result.

The video card is a C media on board graphics.
