Ted,

Based on your description of the situation, it should be safe to experiment with Dectalk Access32 (Window-Eyes), Eloquence, and any of your SAPI voices. Take special note of the version of Access 32, however, since there are technically two options. The first, "Dectalk Access32 (Window-Eyes)" is the version of Dectalk that comes with Window-Eyes. The second refers to a stand-alone version, which, when switched to, probably won't speak unless you installed another copy somewhere else.

Have fun.
Steve

Dear Listers:
I have Window-eyes 7.01 that I installed with the Quick install and also I have
installed Open Book.
I want to experiment with listening to the different voices available to me
when using Window-eyes.
But, I am afraid that if I choose the wrong synthesizer, sound card or engine,
that the speech would be killed and I would have to use Narrator to get things
back again. Would you either tell me the safe ones to try, or, the ones to
avoid. Or, if I have not done a Save, would pulling the plug restore the
default voice if the voice went dead? In the Window-eyes control panel,
besides the other synthesizers, there is dec talk with three sound cards and
eloquence with three sound cards and sapi with thirty-four engines and via
voice with three sound cards and fifteen engines. And, out of all the
synthesizers, sound cards and engines that talk, would they all be safe to use
if I selected a different one as a default, without a tendency to crash?
Thanks for your help. Regards: Ted Larson
