I see this is possible to disable in Word; why don't you try disabling
smart tags in the Word verbosity group to see if it also applies to
outlook.

press insert-v for verbosity, arrow down to Word, tab over to the list
of types of information for Word (called elements) and arrow down to
miscelaneous; next, tab over until you find the smart tags check box and
uncheck it.  tab to ok.
