You need to go to the word group in verbosity settings to tweak the output. 
Your Global menu level has to be intermediate or advanced to get to those 
settings. The verbosity settings dialog can also be opened with insert-V. I was 
looking at this just a few days ago.

Subject: adjusting output speech

Hello to all,

I would like to reduced the speech output in word 2007 and can't find any way 
to do this.
Now when you start word you will get, page 1, print lay-out, ect...
But I want to reduced this until just when you open it, edit field and that's 
it.

System:
P4 dual core 4Gb Ram
Xp sp3 with office 2007 sp1 and WE 7.02
