Actually, on my system, the update dialogue grabs focus 5 minutes
before the automatic restart and gives you the option of restarting
now or later. If you choose later, the dialogue will come back in 10
minutes. if you keep choosing later, it will reappear every 10
minutes. If you are babysitting a long download, you have to make a
point of checking every 10 minutes, or the computer will
automatically go into the restart sequence, and your download will be
terminated.

just goes to show that some crashes are not crashes are not crashes
at all. I was reaching for the power button to force a shutdown when
I saw bleu. I do not see how this fort of thing can be handled by
gw. I think only Microsoft should display a message box to tell us
what is happening before it starts ending programs.
