David,
What version of Window-Eyes are you using? Handytech has updated their
drivers with 7.1 to automatically find the display. So if you try the
public beta it should just work no matter where or how you connect it.

Doug

I am using a Handy Tech Easy Braille display, which has the
capabilities, of running on both USB and Bluetooth. What I am to
discribe here, might be a driver issue, but I get a feeling it is a
matter of the driver and WE not being talking fully together.
When I am running my display on the USB, it shows up in the device
manager, as Com3. If now, I unplug the usb cable, and run the display
on Bluetooth, the port gets changed to Com6. When opening the driver's
configuration menu, I see the com port number has changed
automatically. Going to the WE control, then choosing File | Braille,
and tabbing to the port number field - on the other hand - WE still
keeps showing up Com3, and hence doesn't find my display, till I have
changed this setting manually. WHY? Since the driver itself is able to
find the new port automatically, why can't WE ask for the port number
from the driver, hence change the port number automatically on the
fly? My driver even has two fields for port setting, one reading 'only
connect on this port', the other reading 'automatic port' WE couled
have the same. That way the user could have chosen to have his braille
display locked on the same port always, like it is today, not changing
without him doing it manually. In AUTO-mode, or let's call it
DRIVER-HANDLED mode, the driver would have to send a number to WE, for
which port to connect with. Ok, maybe the driver would need a small
update to send out this number, and WE would need a good update, to
request, accept and follow this port number. But that should be no
real big deal?
