For the curious:
The BookMark feature in Word is a wonderful tool. It can do much, much more
than save a place in Word.
For example, Let's say there is a particular phrase you want to reproduce in a
table that is "copied" from the text of the same document. This is frequently
useful as an index in legal documents (given that the Word indexing feature is
ill-suited for such purposes). One can highlight text, insert a book mark, and
name the book mark.
Then, one can create an automatic cross-reference in this table I'm talking
about). The table can automatically point back to the text, identify the
section where the text is found, and even the page number where the section and
the text is found.
One can bring up a list of book marks two ways (at least). First, in Word, the
book marks come up in alphabetical order, based on the book mark name assigned
when the book mark was assigned. The other way is with Window-Eyes, using
insert plus tab (the default key combination).
The problem is that Window-Eyes, instead of using the names assigned to the
book mark, it uses the highlighted text.
So, for example, if one were to highlight and book mark "May 21, 2009," calling
it "date," Word would show the book mark as "date." Window-Eyes would show it
as "May 21, 2009."
Personally, I would prefer that Window-Eyes use the book mark name instead of
the book mark text.
I don't think there is a way to switch this. Right?
Sorry to be so long, but I feared no one would understand what I was referring
to if I didn't explain.
Plus, most people don't know about, and don't use, the full power of book marks.
